Economy projected to grow up to 5% this year, says Anwar

The effectiveness of Malaysia's current policies is reflected in a projected economic growth of between 4.0 and 5.0 per cent for 2026, with headline inflation expected to remain moderate at 1.5 to 2.5 per cent, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said the figures published by Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) Annual Report 2025 demonstrate the country's strong economic fundamentals, resilience, and commitment to good governance.

"This serves as an indication that the policies being implemented are on the right track.

"Amidst the conflict in the Middle East, which has exerted pressure on commodity prices and supply chains, Malaysia continues to navigate these global challenges with robust preparedness," he said in a statement today.

The report noted that the economy grew by 5.2 per cent last year, bolstered by resilient domestic demand and a five-year low inflation rate of 1.4 per cent.

He said that the nation's robust financial system would continue to strike a balance between driving growth and protecting the welfare of the people.
