Tokyo rubber plunges to 11-year low

Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) futures plunged to a 11-year low on Wednesday as the spreading coronavirus escalated fears over falling demand for the material, while sell-off in stocks and oil markets added to pressure.

TOCOM's rubber contract for September delivery finished 3.7 yen lower at 141.5 yen ($1.32) per kg. It touched the lowest since March 19, 2009 of 141.2 yen earlier in the session.

The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for September delivery fell 190 yuan to finish at 9,480 yuan ($1,336) per tonne.

The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for April delivery last traded at 103.5 US cents per kg, down 2.9%.
